As soon as you have wagered your stake/stakes, you can request cards until you think you are close enough to 21 points. You then have a strategic decision to make: You either request another card and try to get 21 or as close to it as possible, or refuse to take another card and remain at your current score. You can also double down at this point. Don’t forget, the aim is to make sure you don't go over 21.
During a game of blackjack, up to seven players play against a dealer, who always deals the cards from left to right. Every player receives two cards at the start of the game. The card value is the same as the number or picture on the card which was dealt. All picture cards are worth 10, whilst the colour has no effect on the value of the card. Aces are unusual in blackjack as they can be worth either 1 or 11 depending on the combination in which they appear. For example, if a player gets an ace and a 9, the card is worth 11 so the hand is worth 20. However, if it comes together with a 3, then its value is only 1.
The aim in blackjack is to get as close as possible to 21 with the cards you are dealt. If this score is exceeded then you lose - or to use the casino terminology, “bust”. In the ideal scenario, the player receives an ace and a 10 or an ace and a picture card. This is known as “blackjack” with a score of 21 meaning that the game is won. However, this is the exception and not the rule – generally players use various strategies and tactics by taking more cards with the aim of getting as close as possible to this score and at least scoring more than the dealer. Here’s an example: One player has a 10 and a 9, meaning a score of 19. The dealer has a queen and a 7, meaning a score of 17. In this case, the player has won.
In case of a win, the odds in blackjack are generally 1:1. For example, if the player wagers CHF 20 then the winnings will be CHF 40. The only exception to this rule is when a player gets blackjack, where winnings are instantly paid at odds of 3:2. If the player wagers CHF 20 and gets blackjack, winnings are CHF 50 and the player is then out of that game. However, it is important that the dealer’s first card is not also an ace or a 10 (or a picture card) – as if the dealer also has blackjack then the round is deemed a draw and the player merely gets their stake returned. It should be noted that this is one of the casino games where various table limits may apply, depending on the online casino in question. Both minimum and maximum limits may vary depending on the provider!
The game starts when all players place their stakes. At this point, the cards are dealt: Cards are dealt from right to left, or from left to right from the dealer’s perspective, until all players have two cards. The player’s cards are dealt face up. The dealer’s second card remains face downwards and only the first card can be seen. If the dealer’s visible card is an ace, then players have the option of taking out “insurance” against the possibility that the dealer has blackjack. This insurance costs half the original stake. If a player has staked CHF 20, then insurance is CHF 10. If the dealer does indeed have blackjack, then the player loses the stake but wins on the insurance at odds of 1:1. Other players who decided not to take out insurance, lose their entire stake to the dealer. This is unless one of them also has blackjack, resulting in a push. If the dealer does not have blackjack, players who took out insurance lose the stake wagered on insurance. Every player is asked how they would like to proceed. There are two possible options: They can either request another card (“hit”) or opt not to take one (“stand”). The player can request as many extra cards as they like, but once 21 is exceeded, they “bust” and are out of the game, losing their stake. A general strategy is not to request any more cards once your score is between 16 and 21. Taking at least one more card is always recommended with very low scores such as 11 or below. If a player says “stand” then the dealer continues to deal to other players until they have all decided to stand. At this point, the dealer reveals his card and the game continues. If he has less than 17, he continues until he reaches 17 or higher (without exceeding 21). Once this is the case, the dealer may not deal any more cards and his score is compared to that of all other players. Those with more points than the dealer win at odds of 1:1, those with fewer points lose their stake. In the case of a tie, the player gets his stake back, so neither wins nor loses. If the dealer exceeds 21, then all other players win – except for those who had blackjack and have already had a payout at higher odds.

Online casino games are enjoying increasing popularity. This is largely due to their flexibility and ease of access. It is possible to access and learn how to play slot machines, roulette and blackjack at any time, either as demos or with real money. However, new players insist on being able to take their first steps risk free. Playing with real cash is only an option when they’ve understood the rules and all the nuances.
I like to support new players. There are no obligations in my online casino. You decide whether you want to win real cash or just play for the experience.
Blackjack is popular among casino fans. It is easy to learn and it’s possible to improve your chances to win with the correct strategy. This makes it one of the most transparent games in casinos. The dealer follows a fixed plan. Experienced players can predict his actions at any time and use this knowledge to their advantage. Beginners can also learn quickly. A good understanding of the basic betting options can be acquired after just a few free test rounds.
The fact that online casino games are played without a dealer or croupier does not affect chances of winning. The gameplay remains the same, however the offering is considerably larger. All casino games are based on a certified random number generator, subject to frequent inspections by independent experts. Gambling commissions and providers ensure that players can rely on fairness, security, and professionalism 24/7. That's whether you play for low or high stakes, have plenty of experience, or are just taking your first steps.
